Sacrewell's Christmas Adventure

Lifestyle | Article

Father Christmas arrived at Sacrewell Farm on Saturday 1st December.

As his reindeer are having a rest before Christmas he travelled on a cart pulled by the some of the resident Shire Horses that pulled the Lord Mayor’s coach in London earlier this month.

Father Christmas arrives at Sacrewell

Father Christmas arrived on the cart and was taken down through the visitor centre to the Old Watermill, where he stepped back in time this year with his 1940’s style sitting room in the old Mill House.

For visitors the Christmas Adventure starts with a ride in Rudolph the Red Nosed Tractor Sleigh down the hill to the Old Mill House. Santa will be in his 1940’s decorated sitting room next to a cosy log fire ready to have a real old fashioned chat with the children and handing out some great presents.

The whole Mill House looks absolutely fabulous in it’s 1940’s glory. Jars of preserves, pickled eggs and Christmas puddings line the pantry. Traditional homemade paper Christmas decorations and holly and ivy are the main decorations. The Christmas tree looks so good that one has to wonder why we need lights and modern glittery decorations.

As well as seeing Father Christmas in the Mill House, there is loads more for visitors to see whether they are visiting Santa or not. In the stable there is a nativity scene painted by a local artist, with real farm animals in the stable. Chick and Guinea Pig holding is in the next-door Discovery Centre. The heated Activity Barn has the normal pedal tractor course and colouring activities. Shire Horse cart rides will be operating at the weekends (weather permitting).

So if you are looking for a more traditional day out with Father Christmas, Sacrewell has a lot to offer. Santa is at Sacrewell weekends of 8th & 9th and every day from 15th to 23rd December. (Pre-booked groups welcome any day in December). Tickets to see Santa cost an additional £5 per child. Normal entrance charges apply with accompanying adults receiving a free mince pie and glass of mulled wine.

Sacrewell is such a beautiful setting for a great day out, with all the other farm animals to feed, Shire Horse Centre, gardens to explore, indoor and outdoor play areas, and a working watermill. The Miller’s Country Café is a great spot to have anything from a full home-cooked lunch to a cup of tea with views over the beautiful countryside. There are some great gifts and local produce in the Three Little Ducks Farm & Gift Shop to make Christmas special.
