The exhibition will feature the tragic story of the real
Peterborough family, Mr and Mrs Sage and their nine children, who
sailed on the ship and lost their lives on the night of the
disaster.
Visitors will have the chance to
see a fantastic collection of objects from the Titanic, such as a
pocket watch worn by a passenger that stopped on the night and at
the time of the disaster, a teddy bear carried away from the ship,
and some of the exquisite china and decorations used on Titanic and
her sister ships, Olympic and Britannic.
Also on display will be props from
James Cameron's movie Titanic, including one of the costumes worn by
actress Kate Winslet and the 'Heart of the Ocean' necklace. There
will also be a collection of sets including a recreation of a third
class cabin, part of the sunken wreck and the prow of the ship where
visitors will be able to pose for their own photograph like those
seen on the film.
Peterborough City Council’s museum
visitor services and marketing manager Stuart Orme said: “This is a
stunning exhibition which tells the incredible story of the Titanic.
“It features the people who sailed
on her one and only voyage and the disaster that cost many of them,
including a Peterborough family, their lives. I’d urge anyone to
come and see this fantastic display.”
The exhibition opens to the public
on Saturday 30 June and runs until Sunday 30 September. It is open
from 10 am to 5 pm from Tuesday to Saturday and 12 noon to 4 pm on
Sundays. Admission is free.
