Help is also available on housing issues, money matters,
relationships, health and a wide range of issues that affect young
people.
Young people from Peterborough have
been heavily involved in the design layout, colour scheme,
furnishings and software. At the launch young people will give a
presentation on how they have helped shape the new Youth Access
Point.
As well as gaining help and advice,
young people will also have access to the internet and telephones.
Computers will include music, film editing and careers advice
software.
Councillor Matthew Dalton, spokesman
for young people, said: “It can often be difficult for young people
to know where to go for impartial information and advice on issues
including which career path to take and how to make those first
steps into adulthood.
“The Youth Access Point will be a
one-stop-shop for young people to access information on a whole
range of issues where they can be assured that any advice which is
given to them will remain confidential.”
Javed Ahmed, Youth Access Point
manager for the young people’s service, said: “A key area for the
young people’s service is making sure young people are in
employment, education or training and there is a real focus at the
Youth Access Point on addressing that need.
“There was previously a smaller
access point based within Central Library. Moving the access point
to this new larger location will also enable us to provide workshops
on areas such as interview techniques and CV writing.
“This new facility will make it
easier for young people to make that step from education into
employment.”
The Youth Access Point will be open
Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 9 am and 5 pm,
Thursdays from 10.15 am to 5 pm and Saturdays between 9.30 am and 1
pm.
