In a bid to persuade shoppers not to ask for a plastic bag, the
'Get a Green Grip Peterborough' campaign will hand out over
5,000 natural cotton bags.
Hugh Cripps, Chief Executive of PECT,
said: "This is a fantastic campaign and long overdue. Plastic bags
litter the streets and hurt wildlife. We hope Peterborough's shops
and shoppers agree with us and stop using plastic bags."
Peterborough is currently the site
of a number of groundbreaking environmental initiatives including
the largest zero carbon challenge site in the UK. 450 zero carbon
homes will be built in the city and the site will also be used to
showcase the latest eco-construction techniques.
Shoppers will be able to get their
hands on the ‘Get a Green Grip Peterborough’ bags from April, and
the bags will be available throughout the Green Festival in May and
June.
The Get a Green Grip campaign is
being supported by a number of organisations within Peterborough
including Perkins, Peterborough Evening Telegraph, KJS Print and
Mail, Royal Haskoning, and the Environment Agency.
