He has recently received a letter (attached) from Tom Harris (the
Under Secretary of State at the DfT) indicating that the
aforementioned section of the A47 will not even be reconsidered for
low noise surfacing until 2011 at the earliest. This decision is
based on noise data that is now nine years old.
Stewart has been campaigning since
2003 for the section of the A47 that runs through the city (between
the Paston Parkway and Nene Parkway junctions) to be resurfaced with
low noise surfacing and met a large delegation of Longthorpe
residents earlier this summer to discuss the matter.
The A47 in Peterborough is the most
heavily built up urban stretch of the A47 from Great Yarmouth to
Leicester.
Stewart commented:
“I am frankly aghast at the attitude
of Government Ministers to this issue.
“They are sticking their heads in
the sand and making decisions about our local major trunk roads
based on data that is nine years out of date.
“I will continue to press the
Government on this issue until Peterborough residents living along
the A47 get a fair deal.”
